what is SCES?
The Scottish Catholic Education Service (SCES) was established by the Catholic Education Commission (CEC) on behalf of the Bishop’ Conference, and is the operational arm of the CEC which sets out national policy on all educational matters on behalf of the Scottish Roman Catholic Bishops. The core business of SCES is the promotion and support of Catholic schools and education throughout Scotland.
Based in Glasgow, SCES administers the Commission's priorities, formulating its policy, implementing its decisions and supporting its work in all its aspects, including the provision of resources and CPD training for schools and for teachers, communicating a coherent vision of quality Catholic education which is in line with the traditions of the Catholic Church and relevant to Scotland in the 21st Century.
SCES leads discussions with the Scottish Executive and national agencies whose policies impact on Catholic schools. It is involved in encouraging recruitment of teachers, their formation in the University of Glasgow, and their ongoing professional development in schools.
Aspiring to be values for its efforts in promoting and implementing a far-reaching spiritual vision for Catholic education and its significant contribution to the welfare of Scottish society, SCES has a particular interest in the development of policy and practice which impinge on the nature of Catholic Education in over 400 schools across Scotland.
