"I am very pleased that the Scottish Executive has recognised that Catholic schools wish to offer young people opportunities to be fully informed and to set relationships education in a faith context."

Bullet called to love project involvement

'Called to Love’ is the result of a partnership project, funded by the Scottish Executive through the departments of Health and Education, involving the Scottish Catholic Education Service (SCES) and Healthy Respect and a number of partner agencies.  The project's main aim was to produce a range of teaching and support resources to enable the effective delivery of Relationships and Moral Education within Catholic secondary schools in Scotland, reflecting national guidance while still remaining fully supportive of Church teaching.

‘Called to Love’ was put through an extensive pilot phase, with materials being written and tested in a number of Scottish secondary schools. A total of 19 schools were involved in piloting various elements of the support resources, involving 5 of the Scottish Catholic Dioceses and 10 Local Authorities.

Parents were consulted regarding the nature, content and timing of the delivery of the new materials and an information leaflet for parents and carers was produced for each year group, from S1 to S6. These are now available to schools from SCERS.

Agencies that are able to support the values of the Catholic Church were invited to contribute to the development of the 'Called to Love' project. These agencies include Fertility Care Scotland, Scottish Marriage Care, etc.
